Curcumin is an active component mostly found in Temulawak (Curcuma Xanthorrhiza Roxb). Besides protecting the liver, it also functions as a strong antioxidant (catching free radicals which are dangerous for human cells), able to hold cancer cells multiplication, reduce cholesterol and anti inflammation. The last research proofs that curcumin can also avoid large intestine cancer.
Many experts have done a lot of researches on curcumin, both internationally and domestically, as a hepatoprotector (liver protector), it can accelerate the regeneration of liver cells. The modern medical world still believes that curcumin can be used in liver therapy because it is safer compared to other unnatural substances.
One of the mistakes that often happens is to equalize curcumin and temulawak. In reality, curcumin is an active component found in temulawak. Besides curcumin, there is a mixture of other various natural substances in temulawak.
To extract curcumin from temulawak requires high technology and cannot be done traditionally, for instance by boiling, since curcumin is insoluble in water. Do not look at how much Temulawak in the food/drink, but how much the curcumin content in it. There is a product with high level of Temulawak content, however its curcumin content is low. So do not be deceived.
By consuming curcumin, liver will be protected and its function in detoxification will run effectively. It will automatically increase our body resistance.
Out of the various effective substances in keeping the liver function and helping in detoxification, curcumin is the most effective and active substance. Curcumin, which has a medical term diferuloylmethane, is one of the components found in temulawak. As a phytochemistry, besides having a strong anti-oxidant, curcumin is also effective in holding the multiplication of cancer cells, reducing the activity of cyclooxigenate, a key enzyme that causes inflammation.
